UEN has always been a valuable resource in my personal classroom and with the teachers I work with as an Ed Tech. The resources I use the most currently are eMedia, myUEN for rubrics and lesson plans, K-12 Interactives for students, and many of the Pioneer Library resources. I also have participated in many of the professional development opportunities available through UEN including online learning courses delivered through Canvas. Even though I feel I have a good knowledge base of UEN and the resources and tools available the UEN Party gave me an opportunity to become familiar with several teacher and student resources that I was not as familiar with. My three favorite UEN Tools from the UEN Party class are: Illuminations- A site for teachers for math resources, lessons, and activities that are tied to the National Council of Teacher and Mathamatics (NCTM) Standards. Teachers are often asking me for more places to get online math activities for students to practice concepts and school and home. As I researched the activities available I was extremely pleased with the content and options to engage students in practicing math concepts. This is definitely a resource I will refer my teachers to in the future. National Geographic Education Website - This site is full of resources including entire units, lessons, videos, worksheets, and online activities. Some of the functions that I find the most useful is that there are tabs for Teachers, Informal Educators, Families, Students, and Kids. There is a media section that includes photos, videos, audio, cartoons, coloring pages, documents, games, and more! The content, images, and articles available are up to date, informative, and appealing. Read, Write, Think - This site is developed by The International Reading Association and focuses on reading and writing activities, lessons, and resources. The most useful portion of this site to me is the Student Interactives section. The interactives are engaging, exciting, match the core content being delivered, and support instruction. Teachers are often asking for resources that support writing instruction because it can be a difficult area for some teachers to deliver instruction in effectively. This site can be a great support for that instruction. All of the Web 2.0 tools used to present the UEN resources are tools I have and do use often. The Web 2.0 tools that are my favorite and some of my teachers favorites are Prezi and Animoto. The reason I believe they are so popular is due to their ease in use and embedding, downloading, and sharing them in various formats. We are always looking for quick and easy to use presentation tools that look like we invested a lot of time. These tools do a lot of the work for us which makes them a favorite! | My Favorite UEN Tools: |
